Coca Cola Collective Bargaining Agreement

Local 812 President Joe Vitta said: « It`s a classic example of how you give an arm and take a leg. Our Union does not tolerate treaty violations, our collective agreements are in place to protect the rights, working conditions and compensation of our members. The new agreement places the 727 local members in a new health and wellness plan, which until now was available to Coca-Cola management. Improved health care results in significant savings for workers who receive employer-friendly annual wage increases and 401 (K) pension contributions. The first year`s increases are retroactive to May 1. The agreement provides for annual wage increases, retroactive effects and improved health and social security benefits for 319 Coca-Cola production and storage workers as well as for transport drivers. Local 727 secured the fair agreement after members almost unanimously approved an unfair labour strike against the Coca-Cola airworks and went to picket lines on December 3 for 27 days. The union continued its work on a new contract during the unfair labour strike through traditional bargaining and federal mediation. The two sides reached a tentative agreement on 29 December. In the weeks that followed, representatives of Locals 727 met with the workers and distributed full copies of the agreement to ensure that Coca-Cola members understood the scope of their provisions. The vote on the contract took place on Sunday after the meeting of Local 727 members. Coca-Cola Teamsters voted 170-10 in favour of the agreement recommended by the negotiating committee for ratification. « From the beginning, the hard-working men and women of Coca-Cola Refreshments wanted to hear their voices, « The union applauds each of our members for remaining united and shows us all that can be accomplished through fair and responsible collective bargaining » – ANNUAL SOCIAL PACKAGE WILL BE INCREASED BY APPROXIMATELY 13 PERCENT FOR FIRST YEAR AND BY RATE INCREASE OF INCREASE OF INCREASE YEAR This award protects the right to work a premium day for older workers.
